Selective Pallet Racking
Selective pallet racking is the most common type of pallet racking system purchased today. It offers direct access to each pallet and is a first-in-first-out system (FIFO). This is the type of pallet racking you see in Home Depot or Costco.
Selective pallet racking offers you the most versatility and adaptability. If your warehouse has many different size shapes of pallets, then selective racking may work best for you. The only drawback is that more warehouse space will be dedicated to forklift aisles.
Cantilever Racking
Cantilever racking is used to store long bulky oversized items. You commonly see it storing:
- Lumber
- Building Materials
- Pipe
- Doors
- Conduit
- Any long oversized items.
Cantilever racks can be structural racking or roll-formed racking. Cantilever racking can be turned into a lumber shed by adding a roof to the top, to keep material out of the elements.
Pushback Racking
Pushback racking is last in first out racking system (LIFO). Pushback rack works good if your inventory has a lot of the same size pallets and does not have to be rotated on a FIFO basis.
Pushback pallet racks can go 5 deep and some rack manufacturers will go 6 deep. Reduce the need for forklift aisles with pushback racking.

Drive-In Racking Systems
Drive-in pallet racking systems are the most cost-effective high-density racking systems on the market. It is a last in first out (LIFO) system, so the last pallet you put in, will be the first one you get out.
It works good for users with large quantities of homogenous products and where space utilization is critical. Commonly seen in:

- Cold storage and warehousing
- Retail and distribution centers

Carton Flow Racking Systems
Carton flow racking is used for hand-picking applications. It is well-suited for handling cartons, totes, or cases of goods. This racking system is designed to facilitate first in, first out (FIFO) inventory management method.
Carton flow racking is commonly used in the wine and spirits industries and consumer goods where there is large volume order picking happening. It is commonly integrated into pick modules.
Pallet Flow Racking
Pallet flow racking, also known as gravity flow racking, is a system used to move full pallets through a pallet racking system. The pallets are loaded on one side and then flow through the system before being unloaded on the other side making it a fifo system. Depending on the type of pallet being used, different styles of rollers can be employed in the system.
Pallet flow rack can be designed to virtually be however many pallets deep you need it to be. Pallet flow rack is a FIFO high density racking system.
